Scranton, Pennsylvania – Two women and a service dog were killed by a crazed man wielding a machete in Scranton. According to the Scranton Police, 38-year-old Michael Woods attacked his victims at the Jermyn Apartments along the 300 block of Biden Street on Tuesday evening.
As reported by 2822 News, Linda P. Fortuna, 61, and Terry M. Muller, 59, were killed in the attack, as well as a service dog named Layla. The dog, a Labrador retriever, was found stabbed to death under a bed in one of the victim’s apartments.
Another 66-year-old woman suffered severe injuries and is in critical condition.

Scranton Police Department Chief Thomas Carroll commented on the horrific attack, “Most sincerely, the police department sends the deepest condolences to the families affected by the tragic event. This remains an active criminal investigation by the police department and the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office.”
Woods was booked into the Lackawanna County prison on multiple charges, including homicide, aggravated assault, and animal cruelty; he was denied bail. According to reports, Woods was a resident at the apartment complex where the attack took place.
