Marlboro County, SC – An abandoned puppy was rescued by a good Samaritan who was picking up roadside trash this week. The puppy had been left in a plastic tote that was found amidst trash.
On July 30, the Humane Society of Marlboro County recounted the cruel situation to Facebook followers:
This afternoon a Good Samaritan who was picking up trash on the side of the road found this malnourished 6–8-month-old puppy in a storage tote by a trash pile, barely conscious and nearly drowning in her own excrement. This woman called the Bennettsville ACO who met our shelter director at Bennettsville Animal Hospital as an emergency call.
At the veterinary hospital, the puppy’s temperature registered 108-degrees, and she showed signs of organ failure. Staff immersed her body in a tub of water to help bring her temperature down.
The animal welfare agency said, “She is hanging on by a thread and we can only hope that she has just enough fight left in her to make it through the night and begin her road to recovery, earning her the name Journey.”
Against all odds, Journey survived the first night, but she is still in danger:
Unfortunately, Journey received bad news that she has swelling around her brain and some brain damage resulting from the heat stroke she suffered. It is too early to assess the extent of her brain damage, and the focus will first be to stop and reduce swelling around her brain to prevent further damage. She is in great hands and will continue to get the best chance at recovery and a full life that we can give her.
The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to find whoever is responsible for this cruel act:
If you have any information regarding the perpetrator of this heinous act against this innocent animal, kindly contact animal control or the humane society. The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office is committed to assisting any relevant agencies in pursuing legal action against the individual(s) involved in this senseless act.

Unfortunately, she passed away three days ago.😔
Unfortunately, Journey lost her battle and was humanely euthanized 🙁
Oh no, this is devastating news. I have not been able to stop thinking about her. That poor baby, what a horrendous and terrifying time she has had, my heart is broken for Journey. Marlboro County Sheriff’s Department need to get to it, and find the sadistic fucker that did this to her, and open up a massive can of whoop-arse on that Human Filth POS. SOMEONE KNOWS SOMETHING, AND IF YOU DON’T REPORT WHAT YOU KNOW/SAW/HEARD, THAT MAKES YOU COMPLICIT IN THIS BRUTAL MURDER.
🫠😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If people started being forced to face the same fates they force upon others they might think twice, but instead they get a slap on the wrist for the suffering they inflict. Nothing about it is right.
The monster responsible deserves to be treated in the same fashion as that innocent pup. Bless that pup.
stessa fine deve fare questa merda umana!!😡😡😡💀💀💀
What sort of evil cretin could do such a thing? I hope and pray that dear dog can heal and go on to the great life she deserves.
