Woodburn, Oregon – A German shepherd named Bruno is alive and receiving care thanks to the efforts of deputies with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office who saved him from his flooded doghouse. According to the authorities, Bruno’s owner abandoned him when his residence was evacuated.
In a public post, the agency said, “Deputies found a German Shepherd, Bruno, trapped in a partially submerged kennel and standing in cold floodwater. The dog was safely rescued and transported to an emergency veterinary clinic before being taken to the Marion County Dog Shelter.”

Bruno’s owner is facing repercussions for his actions. According to the sheriff’s office, Fidencio Cruz Hernandez, was arrested on December 22, 2025, and lodged at the Marion County Jail on charges of:
• Animal Abandonment
• Animal Neglect in the Second Degree
