Owner Surrendered 14-Year-Old Sophia Because They Were Moving, But She Is Going To Be Okay

PENNELLVILLE, N.Y. – When a 14-year-old golden retriever named Sophia was surrendered to a New York animal shelter, hearts broke. The elderly dog’s family claimed that they were moving, but apparently, Sophia was not part of their plans.

The situation broke the hearts of those with Friends Forever Animal Rescue, who recounted Sophia’s sadness in a Facebook post on Tuesday:

She is confused and wondering where her people are and where she is going. How do I tell her she is safe? How to I make her understand she didn’t do anything wrong? How do I let her know that I am a stranger but I am also going to be the one who is going to remind her she matters, she is loved, she is cared for and I will sacrifice my time, money, energy and life for her in her last days. How do I make her see she is not alone?

But fear not…Sophia is going to be okay. According to the animal welfare agency, one of their veterinarians has offered to take her home to spend the rest of her days being loved.

Sophie will be living the best days of her life in the country with a loving family.
