Provo, Utah – A Utah family is reeling following a devastating fire that killed more than 40 animals at their farm. On Friday morning, Wilford and Rayanna Puertas lost 40 goats and sheep, as well as four horses, including one who was pregnant, when a fire destroyed a corral.
In a GoFundMe started for the family, the tragic situation is recounted:
As you may have heard, Wilford and Rayanna Puertas woke up Friday morning September 19th to one of their animal corrals on fire. By the time they got to the fire, it was too late to save very many of their animals. They lost approximately 40 sheep and goats, and 4 horses (one was pregnant). Aside from the trauma of not being able to do more, the financial loss is intense.
According to Fox News, many of the animals died in the fire and others had to be humanely euthanized because of severe burns.
The fire department believes that solar powered batteries may be the cause of the blaze.
