Bonney Lake, WA – Out of control breeding of dogs at a Bonney Lake, WA, home led to unsanitary conditions and the surrender of 30 dogs and puppies. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said the situation was discovered when animal control officers received a barking complaint at a home in the 20600 block of 108th St. E., in Bonney Lake.
In a June 26 release, the authorities said:
Pierce County Animal Control immediately recognized the home was filled with Maltese dogs and the sanitation of the home was not suited for the dogs or humans. The homeowner admitted to “being over her head” by allowing the dogs to breed and things got out of control.
Officials were prepared to seize the dogs from the homeowner, but she willingly surrendered them instead. The police agency said, “The owner was thankful animal control was taking the dogs.”
Fortunately, the surrendered dogs and puppies were found to be in good health. The sheriff’s office writes:
All the dogs were in good health with up-to-date records. 30 dogs were relinquished to our Animal Control Officers and were later turned over to the Humane Society. No charges will be filed against the homeowner at this time.
The surrendered dogs are in the care of The Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County, which will be in charge of finding them new homes. The shelter is inundated with homeless pets, they said:
These Maltipoo pups add to the already 80 dogs in our building and 45 in foster, all while our busiest cat season is upon us with 468 cats in our care.
