Officials Kill 13 Foot Alligator After Body Found In Largo Waters

Pinellas County, FL – Officials in Pinellas County killed a 13-foot alligator after it was spotted with a dead human body. According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, someone reported a body in the water on the afternoon of Sept.22.

The news release states:

Throughout the course of the investigation, and with the assistance of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), a 13-foot, 8.5-inch male alligator was humanely killed and removed from the waterway.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office dive team were able to recover the remains of a deceased adult from the water. The body will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

  1. I’m no friend of alligators but they killed this one having no proof he killed anyone. For all they knew the gator just found the body and saw it as food. Many a persons body has been dumped because killers know the gators will eat the evidence. RIP gator, condemned just for doing what gators do.

    “Officials shot the nearly 14-foot-long alligator multiple times after someone spotted it in the water with a human body in its mouth.” There is NOTHING humane about being shot multiple times & there was NO reason for a trigger-happy authority person to kill this animal & to then shamelessly claim being shot ‘multiple times’ is in any way “humane.”
