Mission Viejo, California – Officials have identified the man accused of dumping a puppy in Mission Viejo in the early morning hours of April 10. According to city officials, the man who left the puppy in “coyote country” has been identified as the pup’s owner – however, officials have not publicly released the man’s name and he was not arrested.

The 10-week-old puppy, dubbed Magnolia, is doing well despite the traumatic incident.
On Instagram, Mission Viejo Animal Services Director Brynn Lavison condemned abandoning pets:
“There are always options. If someone is unable to care for a pet in our jurisdiction, we strongly encourage them to reach out prior to taking drastic measures such as abandoning a pet.”
Though abandoning a pet is illegal, it is unclear if Magnolia’s prior owner will actually face charges. The puppy will be made available for adoption soon.
