Poinsett County, Arkansas – A man found in a filthy home with 24 dead cats and kittens will not be spending any time in jail. According to sources, 38-year-old Boddie E. Williams negotiated a plea deal for just one count of animal cruelty, and he was sentenced to 36 months of probation, with 24 months of supervised probation.
Williams originally faced eight other animal cruelty charges, in addition to possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia – those charges were all dropped.
Police were originally called to Williams’ home for a welfare check on a minor – when they arrived, they found the residence strewn with food and trash and covered in pet urine and feces. The minor was found in her bedroom, sitting on a mattress. Police described the scene, writing, “The room, like the rest of the house, was heavily soiled with urine, feces, and refuse. The air inside the home was barely breathable due to a strong ammonia odor.”
It was the juvenile who alerted the police to the dead cats and kittens in two deep freezers at the home – the dead cats and kittens appeared malnourished and their body positions suggested they were put into the freezer while still alive.
Williams’ girlfriend, Samantha Lyn Platz, was also arrested on multiple animal cruelty charges and a charge for endangering the welfare of a minor. Platz is still awaiting trial.
