Warwick, RI – A Rhode Island man is facing multiple felony animal cruelty charges after three dead dogs and four starving dogs were found at his Warwick residence on Sand Pond Road. Police responded to 22-year-old Michael Diaz after receiving a report about a starving dog in the yard.
Responding officers found the emaciated dog in the backyard – the dog had no food or water and had open wounds on the body. While there, the officers could hear dogs inside the house and detected a strong odor of decay, feces and urine.
Inside the residence officers found the bodies of three dead dogs, and three alive, skeletal dogs. A total of four malnourished dogs were removed from the property and taken to an area shelter for care.
Diaz was arrested and later released on $5,000 personal recognizance.
