Waupun, Wisconsin – Richard Van Buren, the Chairman of the Chester Town Board in rural Waupun and man accused of hanging a stray dog to death in June, has died. According to reports, Van Buren died from surgical complications on July 2.
Van Buren was facing a felony animal cruelty charge for the death of a golden retriever who was rescued by Shelby Krohn. The dog’s rescuer had taken the golden to Van Buren to be cared for, but the man allegedly slipped a leash around the dog’s neck and pulled him through a car window; the dog died as a result.
As reported by TMJ4 News, the charges against the 55-year-old man will likely be dropped.
