La Porte County, Indiana – A woman’s two dogs were killed by a deer hunter who shot them with a bow and arrow. According to the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, father and son John H. Lowe, 58, and Hayden M.C. Lowe, 22, were hunting near a parcel of property in the 5100-west block of CR 150 North and John Lowe fatally shot the woman’s beagle and chocolate Labrador retriever.
The pet owner found her deceased beagle with a fatal injury in the rib area. The authorities say that Hayden discarded the Labrador retriever’s body in another location.
As reported by the New York Post, the duo tried claiming that the dogs were aggressive, but the location of the dogs’ fatal injuries suggest the men were in a tree stand when they were shot. There is speculation that the dogs were killed because their presence would scare away deer.
The authorities detail the charges:
On November 2, the Lowes were arrested and booked into the La Porte County Jail (LCJ) for the following offenses:
John H. LOWE
• Killing a Domestic Animal X’2 – L6 Felony
• Obstruction of Justice – L6 Felony
Hayden M. C. LOWE
• Obstruction of Justice – L6 Felony
The Lowes were released from jail later that evening after cash bonds were made on their behalf.
