Davie, FL – A huge reward is being offered for the safe return of two horses who were stolen from a ranch in the Rolling Oaks area of Southwest Ranches on August 11. The thieves stole Milagro, a nine-month-old filly, and Venus, a three-year-old mare.
Officials with Animal Recovery Mission (ARM) fear the horses may be slaughtered and sold for their meat, which is valuable on the black market. Richard Couto, ARM’s founder, told CBS News Miami’s Peter D’Oench, “The price of its hide is much greater than alive. Horse meat is so lucrative in South Florida. We have been doing this for 15 years and I don’t think we have ever recovered a stolen horse.”
ARM is offering a $25,000 reward for Milagro and Venus’s safe return. Both were stolen from the World Class Equestrian Center at 5600 S.W. 178th Ave. The boarding facility has been operating for decades and nothing like this has ever happened before.
The facility owner, Pablo Gamboa, tells CBS:
“It is terrible. These are like pets and part of the family. We have horses here that do show jumping. And this so terrible thinking of what happened. If you bring them back we will not press charges. This is devastating for us.”
Evidence shows that the horses were taken between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. The horses were walked out to a nearby road after the thieves broke a fence.

In February 2023, two horses in Florida were stolen and slaughtered for their meat.
