Sierra Madre, California – The search for a hiker’s missing dog has ended on a sad note. The Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team was trying to find a 15-year-old black miniature Doberman Pinscher named Mitzi after her owner fell on a hike last weekend.
According to the search and rescue team, Mitzi’s 67-year-old owner fell while trying to retrieve her after she left the Mount Wilson Trail. The man, whose ankle was broken, was found 50 feet up a drainage off the trail and teams were able to extract him, but his dog was nowhere to be found.
The rescue team updated Facebook followers with news of Mitzi’s demise this week, writing:
UPDATE: We’re saddened to report that Mitzi has been found deceased. While we were hoping for a more positive outcome, we are grateful for the public’s interest and help in finding her.
Rest in peace Mitzy.

What? People are supposed to stop living life because something bad might happen? Something bad might happen any day of your life. What happened is sad, but this isn’t a case of cruelty or neglect, it’s just one of those things. The fact that the dog was a large breed and lived to be 15 is a testament of having been very well taken care of. This poor man is now recovering from a broken ankle and grieving the loss of his dog. Back off with the pitchforks and torches guys.
Oh. My mistake I missed the word “miniature”. Still, 15 is a good age for a dog. It’s sad he died scared and alone, but it was a terrible misfortune and nothing more.
So it would seem that old people and their dogs should stay at home where it’s safe except for all the common household accidents that happen on a daily basis. I have to wonder at what age you become too old for life. Also have to wonder what is wrong with judgmental Karens.
I assure you, as an 84 yo, who loves to hike, 67 is NOT old. Accidents happen to all ages.
That was extremely irresponsible of that guy! I read all these articles about dogs going on hikes with their owners, getting scared and running away or getting hurt and I can’t figure out what these people are thinking. I honestly don’t care about the people getting hurt but it breaks my heart knowing innocent dogs get lost, get hurt or die simply because their idiot owners think it’ll be okay.
well,I have several autoimmune diseases plus
Cancers.
When feeling good I’d hike w my older Malamute cross, something she loved, and I did too.
Wanted to give her some last of her years happiness.
