Marshall County, Mississippi – Last week, a working K9 was fatally shot while patrolling the perimeter fencing of the Marshall County Correctional Facility. The dog, a seven-year-old multipurpose Dutch shepherd named Floki, was shot around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday and his body was found the following morning.
In a public release, the Mississippi Department of Corrections said, “He was used for tracking, narcotics detection, and other tasks. He was patrolling along a secured strip of land between two perimeter fences when he was killed.”
Nobody knowns who is responsible for the fatal shooting, but multiple agencies are taking part in the investigation, including the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, the Holly Springs Police Department and the facility’s Corrections Investigation Division.
Commissioner Cain is personally offering a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting and killing Floki. “It’s a shame to kill a defenseless dog who was doing his job to help us keep contraband out of the prison,” Cain said. “It’s just a shame to kill our dog.”
Floki’s killer is facing a felony charge. Cain said that killing a “public service animal” is punishable by a maximum $5,000 fine, five years in prison, or both.”

I don’t understand where was his handler? Doesn’t he know anything ? If everything Sue said is true then there should. Be an investigation. The thought of this happening makes me sad ..

So very sad that an innocent dog gets shot because a despicable disgusting human being feels they have the right! I hope they string them up and making him suffer for what they did to that poor dog! Somebody knows something please do the right thing. Animals are innocent.

Speaking of “stringing up,” this is something that k9 handIers do aII the time to their canine “partners.”
What I mean is, that among the “training techniques” handIers are taught, (which incIudes kicking, sIamming to the ground, punching, dragging, etc.) is hanging and strangIing the dogs sIowIy untiI they pass out from asphyxiation. The handIers caII it “stringing up” or “choke out”
Having worked in Iaw enforcement, I have seen them do this to dogs for such things as sitting crooked. Does that sound sadistic? WeII, of course it is. Because if you want to be a k9 handIer, you embrace committing these atrocities, or you are off the team, and your dog is assigned to someone eIse. Who does that Ieave in the k9 units? The ones who enjoy hurting the dogs so very much that they do it whiIe off-duty, too.
And, of course, because the ‘bIeeding heart’ pubIic wouIdn’t “understand,” the miIitary and paramiIitary agencies aIso educate trainers to become expert Iiars, twisters of truth, and very adept at covering up (with a Iot of assistace from corrupt media whenever their crueIty is caught on tape). They aIso put out cutesy videos to make peopIe think it’s a Ioving bond between handIer and dog. Deception at its cIeverest.
FAR MORE k9s die from what is done to them by their handIers than any suspects or enemies. And that is stiII not aII of it, but can’t write a book in a comment bubbIe.

I have heard this previously..despicable and egregious if true. This is an officer,a sentient and intelligent animal.
I have always said, ‘no animal should ever be used in any agency, not police, prison, military or any other’. People choose their profession, animals don’t, if you choose to enter a potentially dangerous profession, you shoudn’t expect to use an animal and put it in danger to defend you.
Supervisors are to blame for not watching over their K9s and officers who treat these poor animals so barbarically and cruel! They need to
fire these people. I’ve heard the same things that these BULLIES do these horrific things to their ‘partners’! Come on chiefs and animal control—- check on these dogs and how they are being handled! Maybe someone should hang these officers! !!!!!
