San Francisco, CA – On October 28, fire fighters with San Francisco Fire Department’s Engine 19 Battalion rescued a dog who went over the side of a cliff at Fort Funston. The rescue team harnessed up to access the German shorthair pointer who went over the side and was perched in a precarious position 40 feet below the cliff’s edge.

A team member was carefully lowered to the dog’s location, and the dog was secured in a harness before the pair were pulled back up to safety.

According to the department, the dog remained calm and uninjured.
According to someone who claims to have witnessed the incident, the dog was one of seven being walked by a dog walker. The German shorthair pointer was apparently chasing after a husky just before plunging over the side. According to the witness, the husky was familiar with the area and avoided the cliff edge. The witness left a comment on the fire department video of the rescue effort.
