Atlantic City, New Jersey – An Atlantic City police officer is being hailed a hero after jumping into cold bay waters to rescue a dog struggling far from shore. Officer Matt Schmidt knew a boat could not get there in time to save the dog, so he decided to take matters into his own hands – jumping into the chilly water and swimming to the dog.

In a video, Officer Schmidt says he had no choice if he wanted the dog to live. After jumping into the water, Schmidt had to swim approximately 100 yards to reach the struggling pup. Officer Schmidt secured the dog and talked to him as they made their way back towards shore.
The pair finally reached a marshy area, and the dog was handed off to animal control. The dog has a limp that is being evaluated but is said to be in otherwise good condition.
Officer Schmidt does not consider himself a hero, just a dog lover who would jump into the water again if needed. Great job officer!!

Thank God there all still good people on this planet XXX
Thank you to this officer for the determination and heart that was on display. Shame on a pathetic owner for allowing the dog to be in this situation. I never agree with the use of these poles though. This pup didn’t seem to show any signs of being aggressive which might warrant their usage. Someone sitting and being patient with foods, treats, etc. may have eventually worked although the PD doesn’t have the amount of time that might require.
This is very nice, and kudos to that officer.
I worked in Iaw enforcement, and we had some sworn officers who were kind hearted, however, there is another issue that continues to be deIiberateIy suppressed, and that is the taught-and-required crueIty within K9 units. It is not just the standard in the U.S., but worId-wide, and mainstream media is compIicit in covering it up.
When a video Ieaks (thanks to individuaIs with ceII phones who post on sociaI media), the departments and the msm aIways respond with “It’s just one bad appIe, has been taken care of, nothing more to see, move aIong.”
HOWEVER, the fact is that it it institutionalized crueIty, sanctioned torture, and far more of the dogs are kiIIed by their handIers than by any suspects.
They do a good job of puIIing the wooI over the pubIic’s eyes, though, with their humorous videos, and fancy funerals with crocodile tears for the dogs who are kiIIed by suspects. The ones who die at their own hands are swept under the rug.
