Atlanta, Georgia – A former Atlanta Police Department officer has been arrested and is facing three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals for torturing and killing her dog. According to sources, Zabria Bridges intentionally broke the bones of her Labrador retriever mix, Layla, before inflicting fatal injuries.
According to the December 3 indictment, Zabria Jarie Bridges intentionally broke Layla’s bones and subjected to her pet to “severe or prolonged physical pain,” including “seriously disfigured Layla’s spleen” before ultimately beating Layla to death.
The police department acknowledged the incident and Bridges’ resignation:
The Atlanta Police Department is aware of the recent arrest of Officer Zabria Bridges. As with any case involving a member of our department, this matter is being taken very seriously. In accordance with department policy, Officer Bridges has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the outcome of the investigation. The Atlanta Police Department holds its personnel to the highest standards of conduct, both on and off duty.
Zabria Bridges has officially resigned from the Atlanta Police Department as of 9/19/25.
According to court records, Bridges’ arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 3.
