Connecticut – A fitness influencer by the name of Mike Gerchy has been defending himself after a damning video of him beating his family dog was released. The video reveals more than just disturbing footage of Gerchy attacking his dog – it shows a disaster waiting to happen.
The video starts with two young girls who are hugging and slapping a large breed dog. Anyone who knows dogs will view the footage with discomfort…knowing that it is dangerous for kids to be hugging the dog and putting their face in his personal space. The dog in the midst of the unwanted attention gives a warning growl to the two girls.
Shortly after the black dog growls, the family’s other dog hops off the couch and walks to the girls and the black dog. The girls fling their arms around the dog that walked over and it sounds like they say, “thank you,” just before the white and black dog attacks the first dog who was being slapped.
The girls scurry away and Gerchy rushes to the room and starts beating the white and black dog who had hopped off the couch.
After the video caused a deluge of reaction on social media, Gerchy defended himself on Instagram.
For anyone who knows dogs, this entire situation looks like a recipe for disaster with young kids who do not respect their dogs’ space, dramatic, dangerous dog fights in the midst of children, and an owner who beats his dog after the dog fight starts, rather than managing the situation responsibly from the start.

The Glastonbury Police Department has stated that they are investigating the situation.

Don’t subject a dog to that treatment by kids and then be surprised and upset at the reaction. Idiots like this should not be allowed to have pets. The creep defending his disgusting behavior needs subjected to the same level of abuse so he knows how it feels.

The dogs should be taken out of the home. They do not know how to take care of the dogs properly and the children have no understanding of how to approach the dogs either. The responsibility is with the humans. The dogs need to be placed where people understand that responsibility.

I think whether it warrants charges or not depends on whether or not the girls were ever injured by either of the dogs, and whether the “beating” caused serious injury to the dog. It’s one thing if it was an actual beating that resulted in broken bones or internal injuries, but if not, then it’s just like an old-school parent spanking their child, not illegal, and the owner will possibly learn the hard way that hitting his dog may only result in the dog becoming more aggressive. Should the dogs be rehomed? Only if the authorities determine they’re actually being abused or neglected. The dogs have a home, albeit maybe not a perfect one. Perfect doesn’t exist in this earth. If they’re being fed and otherwise properly cared for and not actually being beaten to near death, and this whole issue here ends up being only a difference of opinion on training methods, maybe they should have the guy take his dogs to an obedience class or work with a reputable trainer/dog behaviorist who could teach him a better way to get his dogs to stop fighting (and teach the children how to behave around the dogs and handle them properly).
This owner allowed all this to happen! Firstly by not teaching his children how to respect and treat animals and secondly by allowing them to slap the one dog that made the other dog come to the rescue! He spent a lot of money on vet bills and should have never kept both dogs knowing there were issues in the past!! Totally all his fault!!

You clearly didn’t see the entire video of one of the kids hitting the dog. I’m sure she learned it from good ole dad. The dog gave a warning growl and then the kid hit it in the stomach or side a few times. The piece of $hit beat the dog because the kid created this interaction. These dogs would be better off away from this toxic family. The father should spend some time in jail and have to go to anger management classes with no options to own any animals.
