Cape Girardeau, Missouri – Firefighters in Cape Girardeau made an unexpected discovery after putting out a car fire on South Sprigg Street earlier this week. According to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, Engine 1 arrived to the scene and found a car burning on the frigid 13-degree day.
After extinguishing the flames, a live pup was found in the backseat. The department explained the car, and the puppy, had been abandoned by the car’s owner, writing:
This car and dog had been abandoned by the owner of the vehicle, so the dog was immediately extricated and brought inside a local convenience store. This dog was given Oxygen via our Pet Oxygen Masks!

All is well that ends well for this lucky pup, who not only survived being abandoned and trapped in a burning car, but got a new home to boot. The fire department said:
One of our firefighters provided him a new, warm home and we are so glad that this dog survived the fire and is miraculously alive and well at this time!
