Grafton, Ohio – Eleven dogs were saved from suffering on chains in frigid temperatures. According to a release from the Friendship Animal Protective League, the rescue effort took place on January 24 with the help of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department who executed a search warrant on property where multiple dogs were chained outside in the snow.

The organization describes the situation humane agents encountered upon arrival at the property:
Agents discovered 11 dogs living outside, tethered on heavy tow chains. While dog houses were present, the houses were insufficient for the extreme weather conditions. The dogs had no access to unfrozen drinking water and temperature readings taken inside the dog houses indicated conditions unsafe for prolonged exposure. Several dogs also exhibited worn teeth, consistent with long-term chewing on chains.

All of the dogs were removed from the inhumane situation and are in the care of the Friendship Animal Protective League.
It is believed that dog fighting activity may have been taking place on the property. The organization explains:
independent investigations and reporting.
