Dog Having Panic Attacks At Shelter – Needs Long Term Foster Or Adopter Or He Will Be Put Down

UPDATE! The following information was just shared by the shelter, “Scooby JUST went into a Foster-To-Adopt less than an hour ago. However, since it’s the first day, we are waiting to see how things go. We will keep you all updated, thank you so much for your patience.”

Kansas City, KS – A dog is deteriorating quickly at a Kansas animal shelter. The dog, named Scooby, is so stressed that he is suffering panic attacks and needs to be heavily medicated.

On Friday, the Great Plains SPCA shared Scooby’s plight, explaining that if he does not get adopted, or find a long-term foster, by October 9, they may have to consider humane euthanasia.

Scooby is suffering from severe shelter stress. If we cannot find an adopter or long-term foster by October 9th, three days from now, we will have to consider humane euthanasia.

Scooby has been at the shelter facility for more than 300 days, with only one “meet and greet” during that time and no long-term foster prospects. Scooby has been featured in Newsweek and repeatedly featured on the shelter’s social media platforms, but nothing has resulted in the help Scooby needs.

The shelter said:

Scooby needs a home:
🏡 As the only pet
🏡 With no kids

Outlining the perks to help Scooby find a home.

Great Plains SPCA and all of Scooby’s supporters are offering:
🐾 FEE WAIVED Adoption
🐾 Crate
🐾 $250 of Preventative
🐾 $250 of Scooby’s Food
🐾 4 Onsite Behavior Consultations with our Behavior Team
🐾 Martingale Collar, Easy-Walk Harness & Leash
🐾 12 Months of Pet Insurance provide by Companion Protect

Please help save Scooby’s life. He is suffering from the stress and he needs help now. Even if you cannot foster or adopt Scooby you can still help him by sharing his story. Someone out there is in the position to give this dog the home that he needs and deserves.

Please do not contact Animal Victory about this dog. Reach out to the shelter directly for all inquiries. Contact aflores@greatplainsspca.org to adopt or foster.

    • Maybe Lee Asher from the Asher house would want Scooby. Give him a call or email him. Please don’t let this dog be euthanized. He deserves to live!!

  1. Euthanasia should never be an option! This is supposed to be a shelter, a safe haven, not a slaughter house! Do not take this innocent puppy’s life.

    • Humane euthanasia is always an option. A dog cannot and should not be kept in a kennel indefinitely. If there are no prospects for a home and the dog is under extreme stress, it is actually the kindest thing you could do. It’s not about US, it’s about the dog!

      • People never want to really deal with the actual cause of all of this: DOG BREEDERS! If they did not exist, people who wanted dogs would only rescue and adopt.

  2. Of course it is awful that any living being find themselves in this position; but I advocate for BSL and urge this dog be euthanized immediately. Pitbulls and pitbull mixes are purpose-bred to kill. Every one of them is unpredictable and once they go off, it’s too late. Facts don’t lie. Lost and maimed lives are inexcusable. NONE of them need happen.

    • Totally clueless. Maybe we should euthanize people like you since you don’t seem to have a problem killing an innocent dog.

      • Yes, some humans are always worried about overpopulation by dogs and deer, while it is humans ourselves that are ruining the planet for everyone by our own overpopulation.

      • You obviously you’ve never been educated about The breed, do yourself a favor and start reading. Start with Best Friends Pitbull Sanctuary, Cesar Milan, and Tia Marie Torres, of Pitbull and Parolees. YOU HAVE ALOT TO LEARN!😊

    • Scooby is not a pit bull — he is a Boxer/ German Shorthair Pointer.
As far as BSL, it would be better to ban the bad owners, not the breed. Get educated.

    • You sound brilliant- that’s like saying all black people are criminals ?? Do you hear yourself?? I’m sure you are one of those people who live a life of paranoia thinking everyone is out to get you.

    • You really don’t know much about dogs. They are only mean if they are taught to be mean. I had a pitbull/shepherd mix that was gentle as a lamb. It would lay next to my baby grandson’s bouncer and if the baby whined or cried he would run and get me if I was in the other room. I have had 2 Rottweilers and I had no problem having them around the babies. They live what they are taught.

    • It’s dog BREEDERS that need serious dealing with, starting with puppy mills. It’s hard to believe those insane hells are still legal. Backyard and “responsible” breeders are only less horrible, but are nonetheless disgustingly thoughtless and disgraceful.

    • Get educated! These dogs are amazing loving animals, it’s the owners that are ASSHOLES, THEY TRAIN THEM TO BE AGRESSIVE.. 🙄 YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.

  3. Find another shelter to try and take him to find a foster. Please don’t give up on him. If he has already spent a10 mos, what is several more months to arrange with another shelter – no kill.

  4. Please help this beautiful pup. He deserves a furever home! No animal should be put down unless they are dangerous and have attacked. Please spare him and find another shelter that can take him or foster group. He is such a beautiful pup and deserves a chance at life! More should be done to advertise him he’s adorable and adoptable he just needs time and more sponsorship! I’ll donate to have him spared, just tell me how!

  6. What about that show Pitbulls, & Parolees? They may be able to save him. I wouldn’t know how to contact them, but they have traveled to other states to save animals. I’ve watched their show before

    • People have no clue about how overwhelmed the shelter system is. 12 million dogs are euthanized a year due to overcrowding and careless breeding. Tell you neighbors to spay and neuter and to stop buying purebreds when we are euthanizing 12 million a year. Pit bulls and parolees – the organization is called Best Friends- they have 10 dogs a day that people tie outside their gates and abandon – your thought process is uneducated and ridiculous

  7. Unadoptable dogs languishing in shelters for so long are taking up space that adoptable dogs could be in. Sad, harsh reality.

  8. I’m a monthly donor to SPCA. I’ll follow this case and I’ll cancel my donations if they put him down. This is so barbaric.

  10. Hopefully he finds a forever home. He is so cute. I have driven to another state to get a rescue, but I can’t do this one. We have 2 other dogs and my grandkids stay here every other weekend.
