Ballard, WA – The Ballard dog daycare facility where a dog named Mitch suffered catastrophic injuries and died is shutting its doors. The Lazy Dog Crazy Dog facility issued a statement to King 5 News on Sunday:
“Over the past two weeks, our employees and the business have faced escalating threats and harassment. The safety of our employees, the dogs in our care, and our customers is paramount. We simply cannot continue to safely offer our services under these conditions.”
Dejean Cornelius Bowens, 20, is the man who repeatedly kicked Mitch after getting angry that the dog knocked something over; he is facing a felony animal cruelty charge. The dog daycare facility immediately fired Bowens, but the public backlash following the deadly incident has been intense.
Earlier this month, the daycare issued a statement on social media about the attack:

Animal Victory created a petition asking officials to hold Bowens accountable for killing Mitch. Over 16,000 people have signed so far. You can find the petition and add your name at this link.
