Broken Arrow, OK – An Oklahoma family is grappling with the cruel and unexpected deaths of their two Longhorn cows, who were fatally shot over the weekend. According to sources, the cows, who both had calves, were shot early Sunday morning.
Property owner Donna Sperry heard gunshots and then made the tragic discovery, telling Fox 23 News:
I ran out there to see, and sure enough two of them were down. One was already dead, and the other was not dead yet but dying. So, we know she was not going to survive. Adding, “I keep asking myself ‘Why in the world would somebody do this?’ I just can’t wrap my head around it. I just can’t; it’s too brutal.”
The cows who were shot had weeks old calves who were found lying by their mothers after they were shot.
The Longhorns belong to Sperry’s sister-in-law and her husband, Judy and Kirt Wingate, who have been raising the cattle for decades. The cruel incident was reported to the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office; the agency is investigating and asks for any tips to be reported to them – find their website and contact information here.
