St. George, SC – A child, reported to be just nine years of age, is accused of intentionally shooting animals at a South Carolina animal sanctuary; killing one goat, two horses, and injuring two other horses.
The deadly incident happened at the Shangri-La Animal Sanctuary in Dorchester County on July 29. On July 30, the sanctuary made a public statement about the cruel incident, writing:
I’m sharing this here too. For those of you who haven’t heard, someone in our neighborhood has attacked the sanctuary and shot 4 horses and 1 goat. One horse, a 30 year old off the track thoroughbred was fatally injured, another horse here lost an eye, the other two horses have been severely injured.
Since the July 30 post, one of the injured horses had to be euthanized because of the severity of her injuries. Earlier this week, the sanctuary said that the three-year-old horse had died, explaining:
Run free again sweet girl! We did everything humanely possible to save you but failed. We will get justice for you, Charlotte, Pepsi and Millie.
Huck’s Downtown Girl, aka “Hooker” was humanely euthanized at the vet clinic last night due to severe complications from her injuries to her shoulder. Basically she dislocated the joint in her foreleg, near her withers, due to the impact and trauma of being shot.
The shooter, a 9 year old neighbor boy, was found to be using these animals as target practice.
Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office has declined to press charges against the grandparents/guardians of the boy. The fact that this child obtained and used a weapon against defenseless animals that were in their pastures and the blatant cruelty to animals being dismissed is inexcusable.

He’ll just do it again. Once they cross that line there’s no coming back. Once they kill and get the taste of blood. It means nothing to them. Psychopathics. He may look like on the outside he has changed but on the inside he will never change. He needs to be incarcerated for a long time like years and then even more years. No amount of therapy will take away his feeling to kill. He’ll just do it again you can be sure of that. And of course next time it will be the grandparents or a school or anything that is corrupt. The devil is in this child for sure and no remorse. Even if there is remorse that’s what’s happening on the outside not on the inside of him. Open your eyes Sheriff’s and judges and lawmakers. Yes the laws need to change because times have changed. The laws need to be accordingly to the times that we live in nowadays. All of this never went on before all the killings that are done in the USA. I am ashamed to be an American I wonder how other countries view us. Do something with this kid now before it’s too late. The ones in charge of the law must take this very seriously or else there is no hope for everyone or any animal.
I would hold the Parent’s accountable for this kids actions something is going on In that Family ! And if the kid doesn’t have a mental problem then they need to hold that kid accountable for his actions who knows what he’ll do next time!. People are getting away with a lot of things these days and sorry to say I don’t trust the Police . This Country sadly is going backwards.
Make sure everyone knows the name of this demented kid and keep a watch on him. I can’t believe they did nothing to him. He should be permanently unable to do much of anything. Certainly, no weapons around him unless they are to shoot him. Kids that are that mean don’t change, they start shooting humans too.
Went to the police Facebook, they now have a post that they won’t let anyone comment on saying that they can’t jail anyone or put into detention anyone under 10, but they will be charging this kid. So I put a mad symbol. Then if you scroll down and open all the comments on each story they have posted you will find the one where you can comment and please comment about this story. I put this kid needs to be made, with supervision to work in a shelter or at this place and made to work with the animals. Maybe it will show him that animals have souls. I also said his grandparents need to be made to pay for costs and mentioned I wonder where this kid’s parents are….
I just called the Sheriff’s department from California. I spoke with his secretary who knew exactly what case I was calling about before I told her. She tells me there is now current investigation going on and that we need to let it go through the process. Since she wouldn’t let me talk to the Sheriff, I’m wondering if he was suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. Maybe National Animal News, Animal Victory, Lady Freethinker, and others can work together to get these kids off the streets. Kids who do this are serial killers in the making!! No conscience. Try them as adults with max sentence along with the parents who must be just like them. TY
