Salem, Virginia – Five animals escaped from a transport vehicle involved in an accident on February 28. The dogs and cats belonged to one of City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue’s rescue partners, and they managed to escape the vehicle because of a safety mechanism on the van which causes the windows to roll down upon impact.
Thanks to the efforts of the community, one of the missing dogs was safely recovered, but three cats, and one dog, are still missing.
On March 1, the rescue agency said:
Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, and animal control we have found Miranda (the dog on the sofa). Thank you for your support. Please continue sharing until we find the other 4!
The accident happened on I-81 North at Exit 137 (VA-619/Wildwood Rd). Anyone who spots one of the missing cats or dog is asked to call 540-840-7182. The animals will likely be frightened and may run. Please phone your tips in rather than attempting to chase.

So sad. Someone needs to contact someone with a heat-sensing drone. Get it in the air and look for them. Recently there was an accident in my area and a cat got away. It is up a really steep hillside where a drone has it spotted. There are some people trying to get up the hillside to set traps. This is very treacherous because of all the rains we have had. Drones are becoming valuable tools in locating lost/missing pets.
Poor fur babies of course they were all shaken up and very scared!!!
Just hope they find them all..
This is heartbreaking….I hope they find these babies soon and safe. I can’t imagine how scared and confused they must be. Please find them soon!!
