Affectionate Dog Surrendered With Touching Note From Prior Owner

Brooklyn, NY – An affectionate dog named Ocean was recently surrendered by her owner, who left shelter staff with a touching note that outlines the dog’s many attributes. On Wednesday, Boroughbred in Brooklyn, a volunteer-run Facebook page, wrote:

In an ideal world no dog is surrendered to a shelter. But since that world doesn’t exist, the next best is that they were loved and adored until the day they arrive. And every so often a guardian leaves notes so loving that my heart aches for both dog and human.

Sharing the note which reads:

Ocean is described by her former guardian as quiet, social, and affectionate. She is said to understand when told “I love you.” She gets nervous during car rides. She loves taking a bath when the water is warm.

She doesn’t care much for toys, but loves to listen to Gospel music when she sleeps and enjoys belly rubs. Ocean’s favorite snacks are apples and carrots, and she prefers to spend her time where her family is.

Her guardian’s favorite thing about her is how loving she is.

Ocean is a sprightly senior, 11 years of age. She has spent time with kids (ages 2 to 7), and other dogs. She walks nicely on a leash and still enjoys going for walks each day. Shelter staff noted that she solicits affection and that she was “wiggly and wagging” at intake.

It is clear that Ocean’s former guardian adored her. Please help this sweet girl find a new home with someone who will love her just as much.

Ocean is waiting to meet you at Brooklyn ACC. Her ID is #8829.

  2. No pet parent who truly loves their pet surrenders them!

    Never.

I can think of no circumstance that would compel me to surrender my dog.

Even if I die, preperations have bern made so my dog will be taken care of for life.

  3. We don’t know the cirumstances why Ocean was surrendered. Its so heartbreaking to make that difficult decision. But in the note the owner loved Ocean and took care&kept her safe Its sad when you have to make a decision to give up a pet someone who is part of your family’. It just brings tears to my eyes. I hope Ocean is adjusting to her new environment. I know what Ocean is thinking where is my family, why am I here?? I’ll be praying for you Ocean that you will get a loving caring home again.

  4. this person obviously loved this dog. she brought her to a place where she would be safe. not everyone can arrange for their dog to be cared for if they die. maybe they have no one to help or can’t afford the expense. life has many twists and we can never tell what tragedy we may face. we can do the best we can and still unintentionally fall short, so before you judge this person take a minute to stand in those shoes and try to understand we can’t always get the outcome we hope for in life!

  6. At 11 years old, Oceans chances of adoption are slim, so we all know this is likely a death sentence. Wonder if the “loving” owner understands this. Unfortunately, the majority of dogs surrendered do not make it to adoption. Too bad we can’t shut down ALL breeders, puppy mills, backyard, designer, ALL OF THEM!! Solve the root of the problem instead of always bandaiding a gaping wound.
