Mahoning County, Ohio – A senior dog has finally been adopted after spending the majority of his life at the Animal Charity of Ohio shelter. The nine-year-old dog, Onyx, was taken in at the shelter back in 2018 when he was two years old.
Onyx endeared himself with the shelter staff and volunteers, but the perfect adopter was not found until this December. Onyx’s new family learned about the long-time shelter resident after seeing him on social media.
As it turned out, they were a perfect match, and it was love at first sight.
Though the people who know and love Onyx will miss him, they know that his life will only improve as he gets to enjoy the comforts of a real home, with a family of his own.
There were tears and cheers when Onyx made his way over a red carpet and out of the shelter facility – leaving his home of the past seven years to embark on his grand new adventure as a treasured companion.
Enjoy your new life Onyx! And kudos to the people who have opened their heart to you, giving you the chance you deserve.

Animal welfare needs more outcomes like this. A story like this is a Christmas gift to everyone reading it considering how many horrific things go on. I hope that sweet boy is loved beyond what he could ever imagine. Thank you to all involved. That shelter is a class act filled with compassionate folks. Sadly few shelters would display that amount of patience while hoping for a dog to get adopted. This is an example of how things should be in this country. Kudos to all who gave Onyx the care they did as so many dogs end up struggling mentally when in shelter environments. Go have yourself a great life Onyx!
I wish this sweetest dog and his heart warming new owner a happy life together!
Every living creature deserves a chance: your work is so important. Many thank.
YES NO KILL SHELTERS ! THE POLITICIANS NEED TO DO A BETTER JOB HELPING THESE VOICELESS CREATURES OF GOD ✝️
This is why all shelters MUST BE NO KILL!!! Kudos to this shelter and the adopters.
I so agree with you! I do really find it hard to believe that there are kill shelters? Spay and neuter is the way to go and stamp out all the people that breed Dogs just for the money.
