Wilmer, Alabama – An Alabama man is facing animal cruelty charges after he allegedly failed to feed his horse for six months and burned the carcass of another. According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, 29-year-old Bobbie Smith was arrested on September 19 and taken to the Mobile County Jail following an investigation involving horses at property on the 8900 block of Wilmer Georgetown Road.
As reported by Fox 10 News, the authorities began investigating after residents near the property reported “strong odors,” and malnourished horses. One horse, named Buddy, was skin and bones by the time officials discovered the neglectful situation.
Buddy was taken in by White-Gates Farm Equine Rescue where he is recovering, and Smith was booked into the Mobile County Jail on two counts of aggravated animal cruelty and one count of Failure to Bury Livestock.
