Utica, NY – A 30-year-old Utica woman is facing a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals after abandoning her dog in a rental unit. The grim discovery was made by the landlord at a residence on the 600 block of Lenox Avenue – a deceased dog, in a cage, was found sealed in a closet at the residence. The dog suffered and died because its owner, Anaiya Harris, ensured that her dog had absolutely no way of escaping.
The Utica Police Department report states:
“As he was attempting to survey the apartment, he noticed that the previous tenant had locked the dog in the cage inside a closet, then locked the closet door and sealed the door with spray foam.”
As reported by WKTV News, Anaiya Harris had moved out of the unit weeks before the dog was found.
