Santa Fe, NM – Questions and mystery surround the tragic discovery of actor Gene Hackman, 95, his wife, Betsy Arakawa, 64, and one of their three dogs, dead in their sprawling Santa Fe mansion. According to sources, the grim discovery was made on Wednesday – the couple had not been seen for two weeks, and they appeared to have been dead for quite a while by the time they were found.
Investigators found an open door to the home, a deceased German shepherd locked in a closet, the body of Hackman was found in a mudroom and his wife’s body was in the bathroom, not far from a spilled bottle of prescription pills on a counter. Two of the couple’s other dogs were found alive.
Initially, the authorities stated that the deaths were not suspicious, but now there are calls for further investigation. The gas company has responded to the residence and so far, there are no signs of a leak.
An autopsy on Hackman and his wife will be done to determine their causes of death.
