Castaic, CA – A Los Angeles County animal shelter was forced to fully evacuate this week as yet another deadly wildfire broke out in California. The county’s Castaic Animal Care Center let the public know that they were under evacuation orders on Wednesday afternoon – they requested that no one come to the facility during the critical time.
The shelter fully evacuated all animals, with dogs and small animals transferred to the Lancaster Shelter and pigs and horses to Pierce College.
The Hughes Fire erupted on Wednesday approximately 45 miles outside of Los Angeles. The fire, whipped by Santa Ana winds, quickly spread prompting thousands of people to evacuate.
Agencies from across the nation are stepping up to help during this tragic time. Animal Victory’s Disaster and Abuse Fund has been distributing funds to people and groups in the area who are working feed and care for the animals impacted by this apocalyptic disaster. Thousands of dollars have been distributed, but this is an ongoing situation with no end in sight. If you are interested in making a donation, you can do so at this link.
