Farmington, New Mexico – A 16-year-old dog, who vanished for seven long years before being found and reunited with his owner, has passed away. The pug mix, Nugget, was discovered in South Carolina earlier this year. He was limping as he walked in the rain and a woman sitting on her porch in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, scooped him up and brought him inside to warm up.
Thanks to an embedded microchip, Nugget’s finders learned that his owner, Jessie Springer, lived 1700 miles away in New Mexico. With the help of Carolina Loving Hound Rescue, Nugget was able to make the long journey home to his rightful owner.
But age caught up with the mighty survivor and Springer announced his death on social media this week, writing:
It is with a heavy heart that I have to let everyone know that Nugget went home to be with the Lord today at 12:30pm. The last few days had been a hard struggle. Despite me trying to give him whatever I could think of food wise, he simply said, “mama, it’s time for me to say goodbye”… I am forever grateful to Jen and Angela for getting him back home to me for his last final weeks… this has been a painful and excruciating day for me, but in the end, it’s a positive message that comes from it all… God is good, ALL the time. Nugget was a warrior and fought to make it back home… and when he did, he knew it was ok to just let go…
