A California rescue group has taken in a young German shepherd puppy who was recently rescued from a stream in Tijuana, Mexico. According to Maria Dales, director of German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County (GSROC), the six-to-seven-week-old puppy, dubbed Banjo, is blind and small for his age, and it is believed that he was purposefully discarded.
Dales tells Animal Victory:
He is extremely small for his age, so we suspect that he was the runt that someone mercilessly discarded because he is not “perfect.”
Adding:
I just keep imagining him sitting there, drenched, in a stream and not knowing where to put his paw because his world is sheer darkness.
The puppy has Microphthalmia, a congenital defect, and the rescue group hopes to get him into a specialist to see if anything can be done for him. They are also hoping to find a forever home for the pup with someone who is familiar with the needs of visually impaired dogs.
