Zoo Announces Death Of Last Remaining Peacock, Kevin

Tacoma, WA – This week, the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium announced the passing of their last remaining peacock, Kevin. In a public release, the zoo stated that Kevin was humanely euthanized for declining health.

Guests and staff adored Kevin for his strong personality and affinity for snacks. The zoo said:

During his retirement years, Kevin enjoyed sunning himself, cockroach treats, observing the goat herd, and small bites of waffles.

Explaining why more peacocks will not be added to the menagerie of animals at the zoo:

Unfortunately, the evolution of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza – to which peacocks are highly susceptible – has made caring for peacocks more complicated, and at this time, we are not planning to add peafowl to our Species Plan. For the moment, we will have to enjoy our warm memories of Kevin and the other peacocks who roamed our pathways and parking lots.

Condolences to all who cared for and cared about Kevin. He will be missed.

Rest in peace Kevin.
