Madison County, Tennessee – A young police K9 with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office died after being left in an outdoor kennel, in the heat, for 36 hours. According to reports, K9 Bart did not have access to water and died from heatstroke on September 19.
In a social media video, Madison County Sheriff Julian Wiser addressed the preventable death of the two-and-a-half-year-old German Shepherd, noting that the dog’s handler had been put on administrative leave after Bart’s death and later resigned.
According to Sheriff Wiser, the K9 handler had not been home for 36 hours while Bart was left in his outdoor kennel; the heat index reached 101 degrees during that time. A necropsy determined that Bart died from heatstroke due to “severe dehydration.”
An internal investigation and a criminal investigation have been ordered. The investigation is ongoing.
Rest easy K9 Bart.

This was avoidable if Bart had a handler that cared! Barts death is unacceptable! Hold this handler responsible with firing him and severe punishment!
Prison time !!! Loss of job ? big deal !!!
This horrible officer should NOT be an officer. He should be doing time in prison for murder from neglect!
This so called K9 handler obviously did not care about this young dog, that was only 2 and a half years old. If he did he would have made sure he had shade and plenty of water, if his duties could call him away for hours. These dogs are expected to be the first line of defense and shield for police officers, which I don’t agree with. If they are expected to take a bullet for a human, at the very least they should be cared for by their handlers. That’s the least that can be done. They deserve care and respect.

Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! This was an intentional act of sheer neglect, incompetency & pure evil on this “officer’s” part! PLEASE ensure that he doesn’t just move to another district as many of these scumbag criminal cops do once they resign for their sickening crimes! If you ENSURE that this “handler” is locked up, he won’t be able to simply just transfer to another precinct. In fact, how about we just leave him in a kennel for three days in 100+ degree heat without water? Yeah. That sounds a lot better actually. Don’t waste our taxpayer money on this scumbag thug!! Treat him like the criminal he IS!! No slap on the wrist!! He KILLED an OFFICER!! Any other civilian who did this would receive life in prison!! Don’t do this POS any favors!! I’m PISSED!!!!!
Please hold this cop accountable for killing a police K9 in the most cruelest way!!!!!!
He is a cop! Jail time!!! I’m so disturbed over this and the county for choosing this person to be a K9 officer!!!
I agree totally, How did
he get to be a K9 handler in the first place ?????
PRISON TIME PLEASE. HE MURDERED A FELLOW OFFICER
Yes! He needs to be treated like the criminal he is! Period! Just like any civilian would be treated! Life in prison!

That evil police officer from Madison County has murdered this poor dog and he must pay!! That dirtbag deserves the DEATH PENALTY!!!! Loosing his job is nothing, he must DIE!!!!
The officer killed another officer! Felon, and he should be in prison!!

The dog’s handler needs to be held accountable for the death of this innocent dog. There is absolutely no excuse for this crime to have occurred. Some time behind bars might help this individual to be more responsible with an animal that depends on him for survival. But; honestly; after this incident; this individual should never be trusted with another animal. He has clearly proven that he is not fit to care for the life of another living being!
Anyone responsible for someone, be it animal or human, needs to be held accountable. This was easily preventable. Bart suffering immensely before his death, admin leave and resignation is UNACCEPTABLE. This is cruel negligence. Where’s Bart’s justice?! This was a crime against an innocent, defenceless 2yr old! The handler will just move counties and do it again. That’s what shite cops do. UNACCEPTABLE.
