World’s Tallest Horse Has Passed Away

Big Jake, the Belgian horse who secured the Guinness Book of World Records title for the tallest horse in 2010, has passed away. Big Jake lived to 20 years of age, and his death has left a huge void at the Smokey Hollow Farm in Poynette, Wisconsin.

Jake’s owner, Jerry Gilbert, tells news agencies that the farm is quiet now, and he explains that the other horses are still processing Big Jake’s absence:

“The other horses know. I think they have their own grieving time because Jake was the center of attention around here. There is a huge void, it feels like he’s still here, but he’s not.”

Jake weighed 2,500 pounds, and stood over 6-foot-10 inches tall. Though Big Jake’s size was daunting, Gilbert described him as a “gentle giant.” An empty stall with Jake’s photo and name will be kept as a tribute to the larger than life horse.
