SOAK CREEK, WV – Two people are facing felony animal cruelty charges following the discovery of starving dogs in Raleigh County. As reported by WVNS News, 31-year-old Kenneth Ray McKinney and 32-year-old Tiffany Nichole Harrison were arrested on March 5.
The authorities removed two neglected, malnourished dogs from a mobile home and took them to an area shelter for care. A veterinarian discovered urine scald burns on their feet and muscle wasting indicative of being forced to stand in one area for an extended period of time.
A shelter employee told the news agency:
“They are eating right now. Obviously, we can’t feed them a lot at one time, because where they’re so skinny. They’re like us. We’ve got to start slow. So, we’re going to feed them as much as we can, as often as we can, just to try to gain some weight on them.”
The two people accused of animal cruelty will be arraigned in Raleigh County Magistrate Court.
