TSA Handler Put On Leave Following ‘Unacceptable’ Treatment Of Explosives Dog At Airport

Detroit, MI – A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) handler was put on leave after officials with the agency viewed video footage showing him aggressively yanking an explosives dog at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. The video shows the handler walking the dog in the airport and repeatedly yanking the dog’s leash at every turn.

People concerned about the dog reached out to the airport and the airport staff alerted TSA:

TSA has released an official statement about the concerning incident:

“Video showing a TSA explosive detection canine handler aggressively pulling a dog working in a Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) terminal was shared with local leadership this morning.

The behavior displayed by this handler is unacceptable and not within the high standards we hold our officers to.

TSA officials at DTW have removed the employee from handling duties pending completion of an investigation, and directed that the canine be taken immediately to a veterinarian for a wellness exam.”

  4. What should be the reason to treat the dog this way? This is no teaching, there is no learning, there‘s just nothing to explain. This is just a very bad person using his power over a defenceless dog. This person got his emotions not under control and should never ever work with animals anymore or with other defenceless living beings.

  5. FIRE HIM! Any human being working in such a responsible capacity, depending on his dog to alert must NOT be a control freak abuser. This guy should have never been hired, the video itself proves his abusive tendencies. This guy must never be allowed to work with animals again! I would suggest the Humane Society, Animal Control or SPCA check his home, if has a dog, I would bet my life that his dog is treated harshly, neglected & abused. FIRE HIM!

  8. The man should be FIRED immediately from his job and the employer should contact police to report the abuse. He should be criminally charged with cruelty to animals and be banned from ever working with animals or owning any. I can’t believe he was given a dog to work with in the first place. Didn’t someone train him on how to humanely handle the dog? Glad goodness people stepped up and spoke out to protect this dog.

  10. IF he treats the dog like this in public, I can’t imagine how the dog is treated in private. Thankfully the dog was removed from his care and hopefully the dog will be vetted more carefully for the next handler, or maybe retire from the job altogether.
