This month, three sloth bears died from the cold while onboard an airplane grounded at Liège Airport in Belgium. The tragedy took place on the weekend of January 21 when the plane, belonging to a Qatari company, was grounded because of the frigid temperature and icy conditions.
According to multiple sources, there were nine bears onboard the plane that was traveling Peru and Qatar.
Walloon minister for animal welfare Celine Tellier told Bel-RTL radio, “We are going to look at what are the responsibilities and what sanctions should be taken in light of that.”
Sloth bears are considered to be “vulnerable” because of the degradation of their habitat.

If there are known animals on a airplane, their welfare should be a concern if there are problems that lead to grounding whether from extreme cold or heat! There is no reason that these bears should have died.
People need to be held accountable for this. Society has gotten so lax in everything they do nowadays.
I agree. All those involved that didn’t give a damn about these animals should be dumped in the middle of nowhere and freeze to death.
Just because they are animals does not mean they deserve any less care than people. They have feelings too.
Are people just plain stupid? These bears should have been taken care of and not left on their own in a frigid plane!! There is no excuse for this carelessness that cost the lives of these innocent bears.

Imagine freezing to death while confined, while the self-proclaimed Supremely Supreme King of all Species on Earth, who confined you, dawdles around doing nothing to help you.
Unacceptable. Must ban transporting wild animals to places of “entertainment” like zoos, circuses, etc… Charges must be filed for the death of 3 sentient beings who were stolen from their homes and families!!
ALL involved in this despicable and heinous crime deserve same fate!!
people need to get off their lazy asses and take care of animals on the plane, that should be their first priority no matter what the weather is outside..This is inhumane and cruel and those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Take responsibility people or move to another planet
