Fairfax County, VA – A touching reunion, two years in the making, happened this month at the Fairfax County Animal Shelter. On Sunday, the animal welfare agency explained that Spencer the cat vanished in June 2023.
His family was desperate to find him, going so far as to hire search dogs in an effort to bring him home. But the beloved cat remained missing, much to his family’s heartache. Everything changed when the elusive cat showed up at the shelter last week.
In a social media post, the shelter explains:
Where Spencer has been all this time remains a mystery, but what we do know is that just last week, he came through our doors. Luckily, Spencer was microchipped, and his information was up-to-date. Our customer care team was able to match his microchip number to his previous lost report, verify the information matched, and immediately contact his family. Upon hearing the news, they rushed over to see if it was truly their best friend.
Describing the beautiful moment the reunion happened:
“That’s him! That’s our Spencer,” his dad shouted the moment he saw him. Spencer immediately recognized them. Between kisses, his dad explained that they had been looking everywhere for Spencer.
“I’ve never seen him this lively,” a staff member noted as Spencer rolled around in his dad’s lap. After a few treats and some paperwork, Spencer was finally ready to return home!
