Texas Man Sentenced To 25 Years In Prison For Punching And Kicking His Dog

San Antonio, Texas – A Texas man caught on video abusing his dog in 2019 has been sentenced to 25 years in prison; one of the longest sentences ever recorded in Texas for an animal cruelty case.

A good Samaritan captured the abuse of a Rottweiler named Buddy on video and that video led to the lengthy prison sentence handed down to 56-year-old Frank Javier Fonseca.

The damning video evidence showed Fonseca punching and kicking Buddy; Fonseca also hit his young dog with a piece of wood and choked him. Amazingly Buddy survived the abuse and he has since been adopted by a new family.

According to a news release from Animal Care Services, Fonseca’s prior felony convictions, including drug possession and crimes of retaliation, allowed for a heavier sentence.

  1. Great news, justice 👨‍⚖ served to this man i just hope now all animals & pets get the real justice ⚖ they all deserve after being abused or sadistically killed by humans in the future.
And because if these monsters can act like that towards an animal they can act like that to another person or a child…🤔😡
    Stop all abuse! 🙏❤

  2. It’s a well deserved sentence! I hope he does every day of that time and that he is never allowed to possess any animals

  3. This is good, but punching and kicking, as well as slow hanging and electroshocking (and so much more, including lying about it) is standard procedure in K9 units, dog “training” academies (which utilize the military K9 protocols) and even just other “service” dog “training” allows this to go on all the time, hidden and protected. When a video leaks, we get the same old “one bad apple” excuse to keep the public anesthetized.

      • What does toxic masculinity have to do with anything? If this had been a woman (which is often the case) would you be signing a petition to keep her from jail because that beating had to be the result of a period induced hormone surge?

With all due respect, Sue is absolutely right. Nothing she said was wrong or was deserving of your well meant but ncredibly rude outburst.

      • It definitely is a milestone victory, I’m over the moon, I’ve seen many dogs that have been tortured, burned alive, dragged to their deaths by tying to a car, thrown out of windows (and many other things) and the people have gotten next to no punishment

    • Many years ago my brother was a POLDOGH (military police) in the Australian Air-Force. One year his dog won Australian champion. You are 100% correct. They do not use “food rewards” to “train” the dogs, they abuse them.

    • If that’s the case, Sue, then all of those “K9 Units”, etc., need to be investigated and charged accordingly. Many years ago I trained obedience and agility. One of the methods that was used for those dogs who misbehaved was the “hanging” technique. Now, today, there are much more humane and effective ways to deal with those dogs that misbehave. I would NEVER use the methods you spoke about when training my personal dogs – and they have always been the most well behaved people have seen. Plus, they are also trained to protect me and my property. It’s not necessary to abuse dogs and bring them to the brink of fearing for their lives in order to get them trained for the jobs they are required to do.

    • I agree and I read more and more about police officers and trainers getting away with torture and murder of these precious animals, it makes my stomach turn I really mean that, it is so upsetting what goes on I can only cry and pray they be stopped. The things humans do, I pray God sees them through the eyes of the animals.

  7. This evil, mentally deranged severe dog abusing scumbag most definitely requires instigation of the death penalty. A slow and agonizing extermination for this evil cretin is essential.

  8. This is absolutely FANTASTIC news! I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a sentence of this severity for animal cruelty!!! WOW!! I am not certain as to how this sentence came to be but I am elated! I will need to research animal cruelty laws in TX, but this should be a mandatory sentence for such a viscous and horrific attack on an innocent animal. Thank you to the Judge who handed this much deserved sentence down to this evil monster! 👏👏

      • The SCUMBAGS sentence was so harsh only because of his prior felony convictions. HOPEFULLY this rotten EVIL to the core BASTARD will suffer a punishment that mirrors his CRIME of CRUELTY every day for the next 25 yrs!!! 🤬😖🤬 He should never be allowed back out into society until his full sentence is served. A no brainer is…he must be hit with a lifetime BAN prohibiting him from owning, or even being anywhere near another animal of any kind, including birds ever again. He’s a PSYCHO whom I WISH could be thrown under the jail instead of in it!!! THANKFULLY Buddy survived his BRUTAL attack!!! May he know nothing but love, nurturing kindness, &, SAFETY for the rest of his precious life.

  9. This 25-year prison sentence for this low-life animal abuser is finally PROGRESS AND LONG OVERDUE!!! This kind of Trash should never be allowed to own another animal of any king–EVER!!! Furthermore, they should be monitored periodically to see to it that the animal abuser/killer is abiding by that mandate!!!!

  11. Absolutely fabulous!! I am so tired of reading abusers getting a slap on the wrist. Finally a sentence that fits the crime…lifetime could have been better. I pray more states get on board with this.

  12. I advocate for capital punishment for anyone wilfully harming ANY cat, as was law in ancient Egypt, a far more highly evolved society than any currently on earth. As we have not progressed that far yet, I always ask for maximum sentence; and though I’m not a “dog person” I abhor cruelty and applaud this sentence. May the perpetrator serve every hour of it.

  13. About time we see some justice for these innocent creatures. NOW…..if all the courts would follow suit and give sentences like this, then this abuse, mistreatment, torture and killing of these babies would end!!! Karma finally did its job.

    • “Karma” had nothing to do with it. It was law being upheld and prior offenses.

  15. Let this be a warning to other abusers!!! However why not thing of all the abuse involved and torture of animals that used to eat? Do you think they deserve to be treated less than a dog? How they suffer so terribly too. I mean would you torture and then eat your dog? It really is a shame that people do not understand the difference.

  16. YES!!!! Great News. This punishment is something that every state and country should follow. Don’t Get a Dog if You Don’t Know How to Treat it Right! Treat Animals as you would like to be treated, they are sentient beings too!

  18. This is great, but hope the law can keep it up and punish more if not all those caught abusing and torturing animals. In my opinion, those that do this, deserve the same as they had done. Punch, kick, strangle, starve, burn and sodomize those POS!! And then if they are still alive, then throw them in jail.

  19. Everyone seems to be thinking Yay, finally someone has been sentenced greatly for animal cruelty. But he has a lengthy history, the only reason he got this sentence was the dog cruelty was the last straw for the judge. He was sentenced for an accumulation of his past crimes. Yes, it’s good, but it doesn’t mean the laws are getting stricter for our animals, unfortunately.

  20. That’s really good news. We need to make people realise that owning a pet is not the same as owning a piece of furniture. They are sentient beings and feel all the emotions a human does. I hope that all future sentences take this into account.

  21. Good! It’s about time there is justice for abused animals! More punishment like this should occur. We could save more animals from these monsters if animal abuse was taken seriously by the justice system.

  24. Those are the best news I have heard in all seven days; I have been depressed and in bed, but now with this news, I got to get out of bed and celebrate, going to open my Choco vine, which is Dutch chocolate with red wine, been waiting for a great reason to open it. Now I have one. Also want to Thank God for allowing this man to be punished, Amen!!! I hope he gets beaten to death in prison!!!!!

  37. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC news !!! This should be the case for ALL these monsters, I’m astonished at the (usual) sentences, I’ve seen some HORRIFIC cruelty, such as burning dogs alive and the person has got next to no punishment, if there is no deterrent then the torture will not stop, THANK YOU to the judge that got justice for that poor baby

  38. So glad he will be in prison for that long, but like you said it was also for drugs, retaliation, and prior arrests, not just what he did to his dog. But I’ll take it, as long as this monster is put away. I do hope when he is let out in the future that he is not allowed to be near or own any animals in the future…

  39. Many dogs have been brutally killed/tortured by people under the influence of drugs, it would be a great idea to ban anyone (who has been convicted for drugs) from owning a pet (and anyone who is convicted for violence), people have their kids taken away for their safety so it should be the same for pets

I am also glad that Buddy has a new owner, hopefully he will be a great dog!! 25 yrs. for beating a dog, plus the IDIOT’s other offenses, I judge that he serve every day of that sentence!! Please make sure he cannot ever have, or get close to, any dog or animal!!!

  43. Sounds like justice until you find out how soon these people get paroled. State prisons are a joke, (a ‘life sentence’ for murder is never more than 20 years.) Only Federal prison has no parole. Hopefully this louse actually serves this 25 yr. sentence.

  46. About time too. No normal person does this. Anyone who does needs to be punished. They’re not punchbags and deserve respect, love and compassion. What about the English magistrate not long ago. Beautiful GS was “getting under his feet” so he hit her on the head with a hammer! Then tried to strangle her with a length of washing line then threw her beautiful body in the river! Post mortem showed that she was alive when dumped so she suffered agonies at the hands of this bastard. A magistrate! Knew the ropes, all the ins and outs of the legal system and played the system for all he was worth. Initially he lied to the RSPCA and police but then told the truth. Do you know what he got? A fine!!! Molly dog. My heart is squeezed every time I think of her. He commited the most atrocious crime about a dog who looked to him for everything and this is what he did. But because he was a magistrate he walked away scott free. He should have got the same Christ if I ever see him!

  47. It’s about f****** time! But his prior convictions shouldn’t have had anything to do with the sentence. He should have got 25 years on the abuse that he committed on those innocent animals alone. But if you want my personal opinion….. well, I’m going to give it anyway, LOL! I am a firm believer in an eye for an eye for animal abuse. Whatever he did to those animals is what should be done to him, plus jail for the rest of his miserable excuse of a life. Also I am really sick and tired of people saying that oh because he did it to the dogs he could do it to people. It’s a statement that makes it seem like because he did it to animals it’s not as bad as if he did it to humans. Well I completely disagree with that! Harming an animal should be persecuted by ITS OWN MERIT, not by the fact that he could possibly do it to humans. I DON’T CARE WHAT ANYBODY THINKS BUT AN ANIMAL’S LIFE IS EVERY BIT AS PRECIOUS AND AS IMPORTANT AS A HUMAN’S, MORE SO THAN MOST HUMANS.

  50. THANKS SO MUCH SUE FOR THAT INFO!!! I HAD NO IDEA THAT THAT WAS THE STANDARD PROCEDURE ON TRAINING DOGS, IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, ETC.!!! THOSE MOTHERFUCKING ANIMAL ABUSING/NEGLECTING SADISTS MUST BE TORTURED/NEGLECTED THE SAME WAY THEY INFLICT SUCH AGONY ON THOSE LOYAL/DEFENSELESS DOGS!!! MEANWHILE, THEIR PUSSY/PUTRID ASSES SHOULD BE THROWN IN PRISON, WHERE BIG BUBBA CAN SLAM ONE UP THEIR ASSES WHILE THEY’RE IN THE SHOWER AREA!!! I RESPECT DECENT/MORAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, NOT THIS TRASH THAT GIVES THE UPSTANDING/OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY OF OUR MEN/WOMEN IN BLUE A BAD RAP!!! RENEE CARIGLIA

  52. Miraculous sentence, though only because of his priors. That should be the sentence for a first-time offender. It would be if that had been a human child. All animal abuse should carry the same penalties as human child abuse. PLEASE contact your representatives — local, state, and federal — on a regular basis demanding much harsher punishments for animal abusers. Minds are changing, we have a better chance now than we ever have to make these monsters suffer as they should. But we have to demand it and we have to do so relentlessly. You know why the NRA gets everything they want even though there are only 5 million members in a country of 330 million? Because THEY NEVER SHUT UP making their demands and threatening politicians with losing their coveted positions of power if they don’t give the NRA members everything they want. We need to do the same. Relentlessly.
