Special Needs Senior Dog Adopted After More Than 700 Days At Shelter

Austin, TX – A special needs senior dog finally has a home after more than 700 days at a Texas animal shelter. The 10-year-old dog, Velcro (formerly Beluga), was cared for by Austin Pets Alive! until being adopted by a 74-year-old woman named Jeanette.

It took some time to find Beluga an adopter – in June 2022, the animal welfare agency said:

Beluga is a very sensitive guy and probably has vision limitations and might not hear well. We’re not sure what his history was but we know his future is bright with so many people in his corner!
What Beluga needs most is to get out of the shelter and into the comfort of an adoptive or foster home.

The visually and hearing-impaired dog may not have been the right fit for most potential adopters, but he is exactly what Jeanette was hoping for. As reported by KPLCTV, Jeanette initially fostered Beluga, but in short order, she realized that he was meant to be hers.

She describes her new companion as a calm, old gentlemen, and she encourages other people to consider giving senior dogs a chance. Every dog deserves a loving home, thank you Jeanette, for your kindness and compassion.

Enjoy your new life Velcro!!
