Shepherd Surrendered Back To Shelter Months After Adoption Because Her Owner Was Murdered

Crescent City, CA – In May, a German shepherd named Sadie was adopted from the Del Norte County Animal Shelter by a sheriff’s deputy. And recently, Sadie found herself back at the shelter facility because her owner, Deputy Deanna Esmaee, was murdered.

On Sunday, the Dogs of Del Norte County Facebook page wrote:

Due to tragic circumstances – Sadie has been surrendered back to the Pound. Sadie was able to attend the funeral procession & as you can see from the photos was able to say one last good-bye to her mom who loved her dearly.

Because of the home that Sadie requires, her former owner’s family was unable to keep her and she is in need of a new home. The requirements for Sadie’s new home have been outlined:

✅Unable to live with cats, small dogs or small livestock
✅Needs to be in a home with older children
✅Housebroken
✅Needs a secure yard/fence
✅A runner’s dream dog

Sadie didn’t ask to lose her family and she deserves better than being stuck in an animal shelter. Please share her story and help her find a new, loving family in a home where she can recover from the loss of her person.

Come meet Sadie in person or here is the link to apply for her.
