Cass County, Illinois – Days ago, a severely injured cat was found in a field in Chandlerville. According to Cass County Animal Rescue, the cat, dubbed Philip, had been shot. Philip was taken to an emergency veterinarian with the hope that he could be saved, but he did not survive.
In a social media post, the rescue group said Philip is not the only feline victim to be shot in the area:
Sweet Phillip died last night at the vet. He was provided with pain medicine and did not have to die afraid in a field. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time we’ve found a cat shot in Cass County.
As reported by the Jacksonville Courier, the rescue knows of 10 cats shot in the county. Teri Cassady, director and co-founder, tells the news agency, “Some people get frustrated about cats being in their yard and they shoot them. Since there is no leash law and not all cats are owned, some feel it is OK to shot or trap them.”
The rescue group is hopeful that someone can provide a tip about this case, writing:
If you know anything about who is doing this, please call the sheriff. If you don’t feel comfortable calling the sheriff, call or text me at +1 (217) 473-9530. You can also call Teri at 1 (217) 454-8968. Rest in peace sweet Phillip.
