Devore, CA – At just nine months of age, a puppy named Augie already knows what it means to be unwanted. The German shepherd mix is sitting in a lonely kennel run at the Devore Shelter in San Bernardino County.
Her advocate poignantly describes the overwhelming despair:
Augie has never had a real home—but somehow, she already knows what it means to be unwanted.
At just 9 months old, she should be chasing butterflies, not bowing her head in silent defeat. But here she is: crumpled in a shelter kennel, eyes closed, body tense, like she’s bracing for a world that has never been kind to her. Found wandering the streets of Muscoy, she’s just a baby. And yet, the weight on her tiny shoulders is crushing.
Adding the heart crushing words:
Her head hangs low, eyes squeezed shut—not from sleep, but from despair. The muted olive flooring and cold, distressed wooden panel walls only add to the haunting atmosphere. The blue leash around her neck is the only splash of color, but even that feels heavy—like a chain. This isn’t how a 9-month-old should look. This isn’t what hope looks like.
You can help turn Augie’s fate around. Networking saves lives! Your new best friend is just an adoption away.

There should be no reason why Augie a beautiful 9 month old baby can’t find a loving home. Other then than San Bernardino shelter just gives up on shelter animals. What’s wrong with finding a rescue group. foster home, look to other states to save her. No shelter needs to be a kill shelter
Poor cutie puppy!!!!
The staff need to reach out to NO KILL rescues up north, K9 trainers, local news – but never should an animal be slaughtered based on some indiscriminate timetable. I volunteered at a no kill shelter and we always made room.
If someone is able to bring Augie to Switzerland, then I will adopt her.
You’d need to contact the “shelter” directly at the phone provided above and see if she can be transported overseas.
She’s a fine, beautiful dog and has so far been FAILED by the damned “human” race. No dog should ever feel like that or be in a kill shelter like that. We bring them into this world and we’re responsible for keeping them happy, active, loved, respected, cared for, and protected, always. 🙏 Augie gets saved.
What a shame no animal should have a kill time so dam angry. Hope someone can give this beautiful dog a stable home & be loved & cared for. Please help this dog feel so helpless being in England 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
We all feel helpless, overwhelmed, sad and angry, with millions of wonderful dogs all over the world and in our own neighborhoods who need proper homes, while all the while dog breeders keep on doing their awful thing regardless of everyone and everything else.
