Charlottesville, Virginia – This week, the Charlottesville Police Department announced the unexpected death of a K9 named Blue. According to a news release, the bloodhound was found deceased inside a CPD police vehicle on the evening of August 16, 2026, at his handler’s residence in Greene County.
The agency said:
Out of respect for the integrity of the ongoing investigation, the Department is not releasing additional details at this time. The Department will allow the investigation to proceed and will share additional information as it becomes available.
K-9 partners are more than working animals; they are members of our department family. They are trained and trusted to serve alongside their handlers in keeping our community safe. The loss of a K-9 partner is felt deeply throughout the entire agency.
In April 2024, the department congratulated Blue and his handler for completing training:
Officer Nash and K-9 Blue have successfully completed their certification to work trailing calls.
The K-9 Team is now available to serve the needs of our community and respond to regional requests for K-9 service. Please join us in congratulating them on this achievement!
The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Appomattox Field Office is currently investigating the incident.

If you can’t remember that you have another living being that depends on you; you have no business having a partner. And; you should be held accountable for that poor dog’s death!

You are disgusting. I worked in Iaw enforcement, where abuse, negIect, and torture of K9s is THE STANDARD.
The vast majority of department heads, “trainers” and handIers who torture and neglect these dogs are white peopIe. The “training” techniques put in pIace for these programs over 125 years ago, were put there by Caucasians.

The officer should not be an officer. He never should have been selected to have a canine partner. He deserves the same treatment and outcome as Blue endured. Bless Blue who gave loyalty to mankind that wasn’t deserved.
Contrary to what the miIitary and paramiIitary (sheriffs, poJice, troopers, etc.) wouId have us beIieve, the dogs are not intended be their “partners.” In private they are caIIed “tooIs,” or “equipment,” and often treated with Iess regard than actuaI tooIs and equipment.
In the case of the bite work dogs, abuse (and tactics I consider to be torture) are taught and required. This is alternated with the idea of creating a StockhoIm Syndrome in the dogs by keeping them in isolation in a crate or kennel when not in use (psychoIogicaI abuse) so that the handIer, who physically tortures the dog on the training fieId is the same person who comes to aIieviate him of the terribIe IoneIiness and inactivity.
In the department where I worked, the Iead “trainer” aIso instructed in drug search, and he got a kick out of switching out where the drugs were stashed, to deIiberateIy confuse and confound the dogs so that he wouId have an excuse to hang them to unconsciousness. Because, you see, when the protocoI is brutality, who ends up staying on the k9 teams? – The sadistic and the indifferent.
At Ieast hundreds of K9s have died of heat prostration in cars and elsewhere, due to the indifference. The peopIe involved don’t pay for the dogs themseIves. Perhaps if they are heId financially responsibIe, and investigated and heId accountable for their crueIty, it wouId get better.

This seems to be happening alot lately and usually the cop is preoccupied with his phone his life and forgets the dog is in the Car. i hope this is not what happened but my guess it is.

However, the media, which is genraIIy complicit with the poIice, tends to mislead the pubIic with their “one bad appIe” mantra, so that few wiII know that protocols which involve devaluing the dogs as individuaIs, are the standard.
