Owner Tied Up Dog, Abandoning Her Outside Of Airport

Des Moines, IA – An abandoned dog is safe after being tied to a pole outside of the Des Moines Airport on Thursday. According to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL), the year-old pup was left by her owner, who had attempted to embark on a cross-country flight without a dog kennel.

The animal welfare agency explains:

When ARL Animal Services officers responded to a call about a dog tied up outside the airport, airline workers told us the dog was unable to board the cross-country flight home with her owner because the owner did not have a kennel. They said the owner left the airport with the dog, but returned alone, and went on to board their flight.

The dog, dubbed Allie, was found alone outside of the airport…tied to a pole. Fortunately, Allie was rescued and she is now safely in the care of ARL, which describes her as “incredibly sweet.”

According to ARL, the situation remains under investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.

Individuals hoping to support ARL can do so at this link.

    • I would agree if we were given the full info but it’s just possible the trip was urgent [eg a family dilemma] and at short notice. He/she was intending the dog would travel too. Abandonment wasn’t in the plan! How do we know that a call wasn’t made to a friend to come and collect the dog? The airport should have been more helpful regarding lack of kennel. It would have avoided all this upset and anger. I’d be interested in the outcome – hopefully a happy reunion.

      • Sooo… You’re saying that since the woman attempted to board the plane without a kennel that therefore she had a secondary plan? And you’re also saying that because it COULD have been some emergency that it’s OK to abandon your fur baby? Ummmm sure! Even in an emergency situation, you still make arrangements for your pets and/or children. Since the dog had already attempted to board the plane with the owner, the owner had to have notified the airlines prior. That’s a fact. If I ever commit a crime I want YOU on the jury! I’ll get off scot-free!

  1. I hope that someone uses common sense and does not let the precious baby go back to that so-called owner. Anyone that abandons their pet just so they can get a flight DOES NOT deserve the love and affection from the furbaby.

  3. Wyn, I get the feeling you are the person that left this dog at the airport. There is no excuse for doing this and if this is you, your looking for a excuse and in your mind a reason for doing this. I have worked with legislature, for years fighting for cruelty against animals, what would you call this? if you did not do this, I’m not sorry for my comments. Never any reason for leaving a animal unattended and not cared for.

  4. I totally agree 💯 percent no one that deserves to have a dog 🐶 or a cat that just leaves an animal somewhere all because they do not have a kennel for their animal, you do not 🚫 have, any right to just tie 🪢 any animal to a pole, all so you can fly across the country that’s unacceptable and insane it’s called get a dog carrier for your dog 🐶 I mean or a dog 🐶 sitter hello??? Ever heard of that??? I am glad that the dog 🐶 is safe and sound praying that the owner is found and arrested and charged for animal abuse and abandonment that is the same thing as abusing a child and abandonment of a child your animal is not just an animal they are your family so I consider my kitty 🐈 cat my child I have had kitty 🐈 cats my entire life ever since I was just 4& half years old and now I am going to be 37 next month it’s really crazy but it’s true anyways, my grandma’s kitty 🐈 cat Priscilla, got her for a Christmas ⛄🎄🎄🎄 gift my brother and I, and, did we were 4 & 5 years old anyways it was a beautiful gift 🎁 for Christmas ❤️🎄🎄🎄 anyways, the kitty 🐈 cat became my grandma’s kitty 🐈 cat this was Christmas ⛄🎄🎄 1990 and then she passed away 😞 but peacefully in February 2010. She was 25 years old miss her so very much. 🙂

  5. I love animals so, I do not like it when anyone decides to just go ahead, and leave an animal behind not even for flying because they do not have a kennel or because they don’t have the documents for something 😕 I mean come on. It’s so mean 😔 and horrible to know that we are a 🐶 dogs or cats 🐈 voice even a horse’s voice and we are supposed to love 💖 them, care for them etc not be mean to them and leave them because you can’t take care of them or because of other reasons I mean I can not imagine, not having my fur baby girl kitty 🐈 cat with, me ever not even for a minute she is with me 24/7 and I love my sweet little girl lily, she’s been with my mom and I part as our family and my child you know my daughter, anyways lily is a rescue kitty 🐈 cat and she is going to be 6 years old on May 1rst 2023. She was born sometime in mid summer to mid fall of 2023… rescued her when she was I would say about 6-7 months old.

  6. You never ever abandon your fur baby your fur baby is your child it’s abandonment come on??? Emergency so there for oh I am going to go ahead and bring my dog 🐶 to the airport and then oh don’t have a kennel so let’s just tie my fur baby to a pole 💈 at the airport without food 🥑 and a bowl of water 💦 where a dog 🐶 is going to be left just alone and scared no the owner didn’t want to deal with her fur baby anymore her sweet little fur baby angel 😇 it’s so sad 😢 it breaks my heart 💔 my mom and I made sure 😊 that when we were gonna be gone for 3 weeks that both of our fur babies were going to be taken care of for 3 weeks that is almost a entire month too so, we had someone taking care of both of our fur babies for those weeks we were gone in February 2016 to go to Georgia to visit family but when we got home 🏡 the person that was supposed to take care of our two fur babies 😺😺 😻 decided to stop 🛑 coming to our house 🏡 to care for our 2 fur babies 😺😺 and when we got home 🏡 our fur babies were out of their water 💦 their food etc it was really upsetting and horrible we never left our fur babies 😺😻 alone after that and we are not ever going to leave our animal so lily with that same person that we left lulu and Jackson 💝. back in February 2016, so now we just stay at home 🏡 and do not travel 🧳 to go anywhere someone came here from China brought their dog 🐶 along and then decided oh I am going to just leave my dog 🐶 abandon my dog 🐶 just was reading this article the other day, so no one just takes their animals to the airport and then just takes off 📴 to travel 🧳 the world 🌍 because they didn’t have a kennel or even because they don’t have the documents and went to travel 🧳 the world 🌍 that traveled to the United States of America all the way from China the CDC wanted to send this puppy 🐶 that was I do believe just 6 months old back to China and have the dog 🐶 put down but why? so the airlines pleaded and begged the CDC to just change their mind and so they did they changed their mind and now that puppy 🐶 has a new family and a new 🆕 home 🏡 and a loving ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️❤️ family and home 🏡 at that.
