Vancouver, WA – More than 50 cats and kittens are in need of homes after being rescued from an RV in Vancouver last week. A total of 53 cats and kittens were taken in by the Humane Society of Southwest Washington.
On June 26, the animal welfare agency notified Facebook followers about the massive intake of cats, writing:
Yesterday, HSSW received notice from our animal control partners of more than 50 cats living in an RV. Within hours, several trucks arrived at our Vancouver Campus with 53 cats and kittens in need of immediate care. Our hardworking staff and volunteers leapt into action preparing our education center for intake and processing these cats and kittens.

To help encourage people to consider adopting, the shelter temporarily eliminated adoption fees for cats and kittens (through the end of last weekend). On June 27, the shelter let everyone know that the community had stepped up to adopt 19 cats, 37 kittens, and a dog:
WOW! What an amazing day. 😻 57 pets (19 cats, 37 kittens, and 1 dog) found loving homes and families today. Thank you!
We are wonderfully overwhelmed and deeply grateful to our community for the outpouring of support. Thank you for adopting, donating, signing up to foster, and for believing in our vision of a community where everyone loves and cares for animals. ❤ And thank you to our incredible staff and volunteers for their hard work today and in the last few days.
