Sherman, Texas – A dog who survived a botched “euthanasia” attempt by two men who are now facing animal cruelty charges, has a new home. The dog, Olivia, was rescued by the Sherman Police Department, and after she recovered, an officer with the department adopted her into his family.
The Sherman Police Department posted a photo of Olivia and her new family, writing:
After three weeks of recovery at the Sherman Animal Shelter, Olivia is saying goodbye to the shelter staff and heading to a new home of her own with Officer Gray and his family.
A huge thank you to everyone who followed her story and supported her along the way. We’re excited for her fresh start.

Thomas Bush, 52, and Gary Larkins, 41, are the men who tried to kill Olivia in late March. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the men in the backyard with a dog with “traumatic injuries to the head and face”…one of the men was holding a hammer.
Lt. Boyle said, “Both of them admitting to having tried to euthanize the dog using a pellet gun. One of the things that we know for certain is that because of this, the dog lost one of her eyes.”
The two men are charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals, causing serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony.
